Chelsea said that we needed to shoot with some fresh florals she had from a creative shoot that week. She knew everything would look amazing on a backdrop I have. So we spontaneously created together that following day, and now this is all I’m shooting in life, females and florals. Shocking I know. I finally pulled the trigger and changed my business name. I’d sat on the decision for years with nervousness that I’d lose clients or people wouldn’t be able to find me on the internets. And then one morning I woke up ready to make this much needed update.My original business name, Jen CYK Photography, was created at a time when I couldn’t have imagined where this photography journey would take my life. Thirteen years later, I post this from my office, in my studio, as beautiful things continue to unfold in this magical space. And I am very much, Jennifer Garcia... business woman, photographer, creative. 💕

I’ve heard Moms thank God for choosing them to be <insert child’s name> Mother. I personally never saw myself being a Mom, so that statement didn’t truly resonate, until recently. While many have a strong desire for a child, I was built with a strong desire for a business. Now a year and a half in, I’ve learned that creating and growing a company is a different and unique version of raising a child. I’m constantly comparing my joy and trials of being a business owner, to that of being a parent.When I opened my little baby business, the abundant joy and fulfillment that Spark Studios brought (and continues to bring) was something I’d never experienced. Now as the studio has grown, I’ve watched Spark flourish into something beyond me. And suddenly I find myself thanking God for choosing ME, to be the one lucky enough to bring this beautiful vision to life. Abounding gratitude forever.

My 2021 word is “grow”. That seemed obvious for my business, but it manifested in somewhere unexpected…my evolution as a photographer. Every couple of years I feel an overwhelming desire for major growth in my work. While we’re always learning and growing along our journey, this current moment is about rediscovering my voice as a photographer that represents the person I am today. Even though I’m currently in the midst of this evolution, it feels wonderful to see improvement in my work and continue finding more joy in shooting.
